How to turn an HP Prodesk 400 G4 to be a gaming desktop PC using mining rig technique

I use mining rig technique to make HP Prodesk 400 G4 MT gaming upgrade possible

When it comes to upgrading a compact and visually appealing PC like the HP Prodesk 400 G4 MT, creativity and technical know-how are key. This micro tower, with its 310-watt 80 plus bronze power supply, is designed for efficiency and reliability. However, for gaming enthusiasts looking to push the system’s capabilities, the stock power supply may pose a limitation, especially when considering high-performance GPUs like the Asus dual mini RTX 3060 12 GB.

The challenge lies in the proprietary power connectors of the HP power supply, which are not compatible with standard 24-pin ATX motherboard cables. This is where the mining rig technique comes into play. By using a SATA power to 24-pin power supply activation tool, it’s possible to integrate an additional 400-watt Flex power supply into the system. This ingenious solution not only bypasses the need for a compatible connector but also provides sufficient power to support the gaming-grade GPU.

The process involves removing unnecessary cables to free up space, safely extracting the stock PSU, and installing the Flex PSU with zip ties. Although unconventional, this method proves effective and allows the side panel to close without issue. With the new power supply in place, the RTX 3060 can be installed, and an additional 92 mm intake fan can be added to ensure proper cooling.

The result is a transformed HP Prodesk 400 G4 MT that can handle AAA games with ease. The dual power supply configuration runs smoothly, as confirmed by the BIOS, and the system’s gaming performance is impressive. This upgrade not only demonstrates the potential of the HP Prodesk 400 G4 MT but also showcases the innovative spirit of the gaming community.
